ABOUT CHAPUNGU
Chapungu Tented Camp is located in the Thornybush Private Game Reserve,
and accommodates a maximum of 10 guests in 5 en-suite tents, making it
perfect for private and intimate getaways. Chapungu is privately owned
and guests are treated with great courtesy by the friendly staff.
GUEST AREAS The lodge is
charming with cool thatched roofs, wide verand ahs and handpicked
furnishings with a colonial air. The lodge deck gives scenic views over
the nearby water hole which generates lots of game viewing activity. Chapungu has a stunning granite swimming pool where one can sunbathe or
wallow away the afternoon before the evening drive.
ACCOMMODATION The 5
tents have romantic and rustic four poster beds draped with netting as a
main feature, and are equipped with air-conditioning. Each tent has an
en-suite bathroom with views of the savanna.
DINING Meals are
sumptuous with a full breakfast buffet, a high tea in the mid-afternoon
and a sumptuous 5 course banquet in the evenings, accompanied by fine
South African wines. Meals are served either in the Boma under the stars
around a log fire making it a special occasion or in the dining room of
the lodge.
WILDLIFE ACTIVITIES Game
drives are conducted in the early morning and the early evening, prime
time viewing in the Thornybush game reserve. Tea / coffee and rusks or
biscuits are served before the morning drive and on their return, guests
enjoy a sumptuous breakfast. During the hours between breakfast and the
evening drive, a game walk with an experienced ranger can be arranged.
GUESTS Chapungu is not
suitable for small children. It is particularly suited to couples
especially honeymooners, as there are two honeymoon suites. It is
also suitable for guests who are self driving in South Africa.
Safe parking is available at Thornybush lodge and you will be privately
transferred to Chapungu.
HEALTH & COMFORT
: Thornybush
Game reserve
is in a malaria area and malaria tablets are recommended all year round
(Please consult your doctor). Comfortable light clothing, walking
shoes, sun hats, sunglasses, sun-block, insect repellent and bathing
suits. During wintertime it is still warm during the day but it can
become very cold on the game drives and at night. It is advisable
to bring warm insulated jackets. Don’t forget camera, spare film and
binoculars.
