JOCK SAFARI LODGE : Situated in the
southern area of the Kruger National Park is Jock Safari L
odge,
at the confluence of the Mitomeni and Biyamiti rivers, half way between
Skukuza and Kruger International Airports. Combining the elegance &
romance of a past colonial era, Jock Safari Lodge in the southern Kruger
National Park reflects the Zulu & Shangaan cultures in its stylish
architecture & decor. With only 12 luxury suites, the lodge is small and
intimate, overlooking a river in the heart of Big 5 country. Game
viewing can be enjoyed from the lodge, whether relaxing around the rock
pool or from the privacy of your own room, and sightings are very
frequent. The camp is fenced to provide security from predators.
JOCK SAFARI LODGE SUITES : There are a
total of 12 suites, accommodating 24 adults in tota
l.
Two of these suites have an inter-leading door, making up a family unit.
All of the suites are air-conditioned, which is almost a necessity
during the hot summer days. There is currently a beautiful communal
swimming pool with expansive views for the use of all guests, however,
in the near future, each suite will have its own plunge pool for a
private swimming experience. The en-suite bathrooms are luxurious and
romantic. Private outside showers complete the suites.
GUEST AREAS : A dining boma, an elegant
silver service dining room, gracious lounges and a beautiful swimming
pool all offer comfortable and accommodating areas for guests to relax
and be sociable. Should you prefer absolute privacy, you are able to
have in-suite dining at an additional charge. You will also be able to
keep in touch with telephones and internet access. D
STV
is available only on request.
FINE DINING : Jock Safari Lodge provides
a creative and inspiring menu. The head chef and her passionate team
conjure up dishes to delight and satisfy all tastes with an abundance of
flavours. There are many African influences which are woven into these
legendary gourmet menus. Meals can be a starlit affair in the outside
African Boma, or in a beautiful dining room. Private occasions can be
catered for in the privacy of your suite.
GETTING THERE : You can catch daily
flights from Johannesburg to Kruger Nati
onal
Park. It is approximately 35km to both Skukuza & Kruger International
airports with only 3km of dirt road. From here two track roads take you
into 6000 hectares of exclusive traversing in the first private
concession set in over two million hectares or 20 000 Square Kilometers
of the Kruger National Park. From Johannesburg, take the N12 to Witbank.
This becomes the N4. Follow the N4 through Nelspruit and Malelane until
you see the Malelane Gate Kruger Park sign, where you turn left. Follow
the Malelane Gate / Skukuza road. The camp is signposted off this road.
JOCK SAFARI LODGE HISTORY : Built by the
descendents of Percy FitzPatrick, politician, hunter & au
thor,
Jock Safari Lodge is named after Jock, his beloved dog and
companion. They shared many adventures during the pioneering days, when
he worked as a prospectors hand and a transport-rider from Lourenco
Marques to Lyndenburg & Barberton. Hearing him recount many of these
stories to his children, Rudyard Kipling persuaded FitzPatrick to write
them down in book form, hence the famous book 'Jock of the Bushveld',
which was reprinted 4 times in its first year of publication alone
(1907).
