ABOUT KWANDWE ECCA LODGE : Kwandwe's innovative Ecca lodge provides fun, flamboyant and fabulous accommodation in a spectacular African wilderness surround. The lodge is nestled into a gently sloping and densely vegetated hillside, and is an airy and open oasis with sliding glass, timber and gauze doors and corregated iron roofing. The design invites the African bushveld indoors whilst providing a luxury safari experience in Kwandwe a south Africa private game reserve. There are only 6 intimate suites at Ecca lodge making it a favourite destination for family wilderness trips and its location is perfect for scenic wilderness adventures.

ECCA LODGE FACILITIES : The guest areas feature a spacious sitting room with fireplace, dining room and bar area and a deep veranda with expansive wooden viewing decks overlooking rolling spekboom valleys with a backdrop of the distant cliff-faces of ecca shale. There is an inviting swimming pool and an interpretive centre from which a special children’s programme is coordinated. Meals are prepared to the highest standards in the modern, open plan kitchen and are served either outdoors or indoors according to weather and preferences. The lodge has an interpretive centre which provides entertainment for children of all ages.  Babysitting services are also offered at the lodge.

LUXURY ACCOMMODATION AT ECCA : Each suite is air-conditioned, but is also heated for winter. The luxury bathrooms have a fantastic bath, indoor and outdoor showers, twin basins and a separate w.c. and are completely indulgent. The rooms have a sitting area which can also convert into comfortable accommodation for children 11 years and younger as well as large verandas and a private deck. Interior design reflects natural textures in hues of burnt aloe orange, rust and olive. Furnishings combine clean, contemporary sofas with venerable old collectables from the area. The rooms have additional luxuries such as fans, in room safe, personal mini bars, hairdryers, shaving points, and telephones.

ACTIVITIES : Morning, afternoon/evening and night game-drives in open game-viewing vehicles, guided walking and canoeing, bush sundowners and picnics on the Reserve, fishing, rhino tracking, visits to hides, archaeological, Battlefield and Historical Tours to Grahamstown and surrounds. Other activities include Pioneer Cultural evenings and storytelling with Kwandwe’s resident historian and bush breakfasts/dinners – weather permitting. Scenic coastal flights can also be arranged. Kwandwe’s night-drives are renowned – aardvark and aardwolf are regularly seen – and guests have the option to stay out all night, enjoying a starlit picnic en route. Regrettably, due to safety concerns, children under 6 years of age are unable to participate in game-drives.
