| Wildlife | Pilanesberg National Park is home to all of the big 5 - elephants, rhino and buffalo, leopard & lion, in addition to many other species of game and over 360 bird species. Pilanesberg National Park, which covers some 55 000 hectare, is the fourth largest in southern Africa. This malaria-free park is perched on the eroded vestiges of an alkaline volcanic crater - one of only three such craters in the world and is characterised by undulating hills and everlasting open plains. | ||||

Reservations are on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis. Pilanesberg is a self-drive reserve, although the game drives with expert rangers offered at Kwa Maritane are highly regarded and sought after, and are offered at an additional charge. |

| Getting there |
By Road : From Johannesburg, drive on N1 to the Western bypass, and get onto the R512, and continue with R512 past Lanseria towards Brits and cross the bridge over Hartebeestport Dam. urn right at the junction on R512 to Brits. Turn left at the 4 way stop to Brits / Rustenberg. Pass 1st Brits turn, and turn right at the signpost R27 Rustenberg / Brits. Continue towards Rustenburg and take the slipway towards the N4 on your left. Take the left exit off the highway at the signboard indicating Pilanesberg on route 91. At the T-junction, turn right and continue on this road to Sun City. At the Kwa Maritane signboard turn right. Follow the signs to the lodge. |

| What to bring | Warm clothing for winter game drives is essential. It is advisable to bring a good pair of walking shoes and a sun hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and swimming costume. Don't forget your camera, binoculars and plenty of spare film. | ||||
